After completion of the „Fundamentals of biology and ecology“ students will understand the origin of life on Earth, the basic units of life – cells, evolution of species and the diversity of life, ecology of communities, dynamic characteristics of ecosystems and global issues of the environment.

After completion of the „Fundamentals of biology and ecology“ students will understand the origin of life on Earth, the basic units of life – cells, evolution of species and the diversity of life, ecology of communities, dynamic characteristics of ecosystems and global issues of the environment.

Subject syllabus:

Outline the subject 1. Cell theory - development, cell as a hierarchical system, the cell prokaryotic and eukaryotic, cell structure, cell membrane system, Cellular memory and inheritance, cell reproduction 2. Biology of viruses - structure of virions, viral genome, RNA and DNA viruses, virus structure, reproduction of viruses, bacteriophage, provirus, retroviruses, interactions cytopatologie virus - cell, oncogenic viruses and HIV virus 3. Plant tissue organs - concept, classification and characteristics of tissues, vegetative and generative organs 4. Animal tissues, organs and organ systems - concept, classification and characteristic of animal tissues, epithelia, nerve, muscle, connective tissue, organ system cover, Device support, movement, system orientation, management, metabolic systems, reproductive 5. Fundamentals of Genetics - asexual and sexual reproduction, mitosis, meiosis, crossing - over, human heredity 6. Photosynthesis - the definition of photosynthesis, photosynthetic structures and pigments, basic physics and biochemistry of photosynthesis, photorespiration, products photosynthesis and their importance, photosynthesis of C3, C4 and CAM plants 7. Breathing - the concept of respiration, respiratory substrate, respiratory quotient, mechanisms of breathing 8. Introduction to ecology - definition, basic concepts of history, structure 9. Abiogenic and biogenic and environmental factors - tolerance limits of organisms, measurement of factors, intraspecific and interspecific relations at populations and communities, ecological niche 10. Biogeochemical cycles of C, O2, H2O, P, N, S and selected risk elements in ecosystems 11. Energy flow in ecosystems, food chains and networks, energy efficiency of energy transfer, production and productivity of terrestrial and aquatic Ecosystems 12. Ecological stability - the term, dynamic equilibrium, metastability, quasistacionar states of ecosystems, succession and climax, the theory of stress 13. Problems associated with the man in the biosphere - the impact on the individual components environment, energy intensity of human activities, and non-renewable renewable sources of energy of fossil fuels, biomass energy, Sun energy, wind energy, nuclear energy 14. Environmental contamination - foreign substances, monitoring, biomarkers, substances injurious to health (toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, genotoxic, allergenic)
