The course is devoted to the provides of geochemistry. Study of migration of chemical elements in nature and environment is based on the properties of chemical elements and mineral phases. The course includes lithogeochemistry, hydrogeochemistry and environmental applications of geochemistry, The practical training includes geochemical maps, sampling and analysis of geochemical materials and processing of geochemical data.

Subject syllabus:

1.Material and energy flows in the system: the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere. 2.Methods for indetification of geochemical background. 3.Biogenic and anthropogenic components of the environment. 4.Natural cycles of nitrogen, sulphur, carbon, and their influence by human activities. 5.Critical acidification loads, critical loads of hazardous elements. 6.Accumulation and deficiency of chemical elements, the impact on human health. 7.Enrichment factor – utilisation in evaluation of contamination of environment, enrichment in relationship mineral raw materials x end product. 8.Total solid particles (TSP) phase analysis, particle geochemistry, environmental and ecotoxicological risk. 9.Geochemistry of landscapes, urban and industrial areas. 10.Geochemistry of technogenic mineral phases 11.Geochemistry of energy by-products, wastes from metallurgical activities 12.Geochemistry of urban soils 13.Geochemistry of sediments 14.Modern instrumental methods and methods of phase analysis.
