Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal is to broaden students' knowledge in the field of mineral biotechnology, focusing on biotechnological processes for the treatment of sulphide ores and coal. Particular attention is paid to the environmental processes in deposits with sulphide mineralization, biological leaching and micro-organisms used to biological leaching. Students will be able to work with this content and be able to compare them with practice. Newly acquired knowledge is the basis for optimization, measurement and control of biological process.

Summary

The course of “Mineral Biotechnologies I” is focused on introductory information on utilization and application of mineral biotechnologies in research as well as operational practice. The course deals in detail with the ssue of mineral biotechnologies. The individual lectures concentrate on environmental biogenic processes, basic principles of mineral biotechnologies, general characteristics of microbial metabolisms of the individual microorganisms. Next, it deals with the study of potential application of biogenic processes into technological procedures of treatment and processing of selected sulfitic ores.
