Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Knowledge rendered after completion of the course: knowledge of the physico-chemical and hydrodynamic properties of colloidal dispersions and the theory of aggregation processes. Skills rendered after the end of the course: The students are able to define the appropriate types of coagulation and flocculation agents for a specific application, are able to describe the kinetics and mechanism of flocculation flocculation.

Summary

The course provides information on the physico-chemical properties zdispergovaných suspensions, distribution and use of flocculation agents, the mechanism and kinetics of flocculation, the parameters influencing the course of flocculation and selective flocculation, options and procedures for the practical application of flocculation and selective flocculation.

Control of theoretical knowledge through discussion of memorized material. Continuous processing and delivery of reports from individual labs. Written verification of knowledge necessary calculations.

Subject syllabus:

1. Physico - chemical properties of dispergated suspensions. Electrokinetic slurry properties, electrokinetic potential and stability of suspensions, dispersing agents, the possibility of increasing the stability of suspensions. 2. Flocculants. Division, selective properties of flocculants, adsorption mechanism of flocculants. 3. The mechanism of flocculation, flocculation kinetics, activators, depressants, modifiers in the selective flocculation, selective flocculation physical parameters. 4. The parameters influencing the progress of flocculation and selective flocculation. 5. Practical application of selective flocculation. 6. Flocculation by stages, a combination of selective flocculation with other procedures, application of selective flocculation. Practice: Practical verification of flocculants in sedimentation tests, tests of selective flocculation on selected types of suspensions, the influence of bioflocculants, applications of flotoflocculation.
