Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course is focused on modern processing technology and utilization of biomass within the raw materials and wastes. The course is to determine the basic properties of biomass, sources, its distribution and outline possible applications of this raw material area.

Students will be familiarized with the basic processes and aspects of biomass use in the CZ, EU and the world.

1. Biomass and its origin in area of raw materials, basic concepts, classification 2. The current state of biomass in area of raw materials 3. Legislation in area of raw materials 4. Waste biomass (food industry, wood industry, agriculture, manufacturing processes, milk processing, production of ethanol, beer, wine, yeast, starch...) 5. Technology of processing waste biomass 6. Technology of processing biodegradable plastics 7. Equipment for processing of waste biomass 8. Biomass as a fuel 9. Solid biofuels 10. Liquid biofuels 11. Gaseous biofuels 12. Biomass combustion technologies 13. Incineration of biomass 14. New trends in processing and utilization of biomass
