Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics in water treatment. Get information on basic technological processes in surface and ground water treatment. Understand the principles and possibilities of application to individual types of water. Chapters on water purification acquainted students with different kinds of waste water and its purification methods.

Summary

The task of the subject is to acquaint students with the types of surface and underground water. Methods of their treatment with examples of filtration, clarification, disinfection, iron and manganese removal. Get acquainted with wastewater types and physicochemical and biological cleaning procedures.

Subject syllabus:

I. Introduction 1. The importance of waste water treatment. 2. Water properties. Water sampling. 3. Kind pollutants.Expression pollution. II. Water industry 1. Water supply facilities in terms of required quality and quantity. Water holding facilities, closed water circulation. 2. The rate of harmful waste water on surface and underground water resources. 3. Balancing the flow and quality of wastewater. III. Methods of sewage treatment IV. Mechanical methods of sewage treatment 1. Solid phase separation processes, filtration and sedimentation. 2. Movement of particles in the material environment, velocity of the particles, the resistance environment. 3. Mechanical equipment used for wastewater treatment. Screens, sieves, gravel and sand traps, grease traps and oil settling tanks. V. Physico-chemical and chemical methods of sewage treatment 1. Flotation, flotofloculation. 2. Precipitation, neutralization, oxidation, reduction, sorption. 3. Special physico-chemical and chemical methods of wastewater treatment. VI. Biological methods of sewage treatment 1. Natural biological processes of sewage treatment, self-cleaning water. 2. Activation, activation options. 3. Biofiltration. 4. The combination of biological and other processes of sewage treatment. VII.Technological cleaning procedures selected types of waste water 1. Municipal wastewater. 2. Waste water fuel industry, energy. Mine water. 3. Waste water metallurgy and engineering. 4. Waste water chemical industry. 5. Wastewater food industry. 6. Wastewater scale farming. 7. Waste water from processing of wood.
