Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics in water treatment. Get information on basic technological processes in surface and ground water treatment. Understand the principles and possibilities of application to individual types of water. Chapters on water purification acquainted students with different kinds of waste water and its purification methods.

Summary

The task of the subject is to acquaint students with the types of surface and underground water. Methods of their treatment with examples of filtration, clarification, disinfection, iron and manganese removal. Get acquainted with wastewater types and physicochemical and biological cleaning procedures.

Subject syllabus:

1. Composition and properties of water, types of water, water quality requirements, overview of technological processes 2. Settling of suspensions, process theory, sedimentation and thickening tanks 3. Dispersion systems, coagulation, process theory, application, clarification and clarifier 4, Water filtration, filtration mechanism, types of filters 5. Groundwater treatment, deacidification, iron removal and manganese removal 6. Use of ion exchangers, membrane processes, adsorption 7. Hygienic water security, physical and chemical methods 8. Waste and sewage water. Wastewater treatment plant, technological lines, mechanical cleaning. 9. The theory of aerobic purification by a mixed microorganism culture 10. Activation process, activated sludge, technological equipment and modifications 11. Nitrogen and phosphorus removal 12. Aneral processes of biological purification, process theory, equipment 13. Processing, disposal and recovery of sewage sludge
