The subject in connection with the study subjects from the previous year introduce students with problematic of water supply (storage and withdrawal, protection of resources) and water supply (transport and distribution networks)

The subject may provide to student the knowledges from water supplies areas. solves the problematic of water-supply engineering (water catchments, consumptions and treatment) and water supply (transport and water network) from function and structural view.

Under the combined form of study, students work up a semestral paper in a range of about 5 pages of A4 on the discussed subject matter and subsequently undergo final written test.

Subject syllabus:

1) Purpose and importance of water supply . Basic concepts in water management . Water resources (species occurrence in the Czech Republic). General and specific quality requirements for drinking , domestic and process water. 2) The need for water , determine the water needs for the population , industry, agriculture and fire fighting purposes . Non-uniformity of water demand and losses in water supply systems. 3) Horizontal and vertical and combined intakes . Protection of water resources. 4) Surface water collection in flowing waters. Water reservoirs . 5) Increasing the yield of water sources , transmission, infiltration, use of rainwater. 6) Transport and distribution of water , types of water supply , pressure zone. 7) Water network types . Sizing of water supply networks and systems. Draft tube diameters , pressure losses. 8) Water storage , water tanks (types, amenities , location, construction , calculation of accumulation). 9) Materials of water networks and their implementation. 10) Uptake and transport of water , use of facilities , water pumping stations . Protection against surges. 11) The design, construction , operation and maintenance of water networks . Pressure testing of water supply networks. 12) Corrosion and encrustation of water supply networks. Protection of piping materials .
