Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Familiarization with the system of waste management - waste legislation, the basic characteristics of selected types of waste and the main waste treatment technologies.

Summary
The course is focused on mastering basic skills in the management
waste and waste management, such as the types of waste and
ways to reduce their number, the legislation in waste management.
Attention is also given to methods of waste disposal methods and their
disposal.

Subject syllabus:
- The main objective of waste management
- Legislation of waste
- An overview of important legislative provisions of environment
- Legislative rules of waste management, inc. implementing legislation
- Characteristics of selected types of waste - origin, the treatment
- Municipal waste - characterization of municipal waste, separate collection, hazardous substances in municipal waste, packaging materials, disposal of municipal waste
- Industrial waste - waste from the chemical industry, waste from the glass plants, agricultural waste, construction waste, waste from mining, energy waste, waste from metallurgical operations
- Waste treatment technology:
- Landfill waste - guidelines for the selection of landfill sites, sealing, dewatering, degassing of the landfill, landfill reclamation
- Biological methods of waste - composting, anaerobic digestion, biodegradation
- Thermal method
- Physical and chemical treatment of waste - characterization of selected methods
