Contents of exercise:
1. Introduction –structure of exercise, requirements
2. Principles of ISO 14001 and EMAS – comparison
3. Initial assessment (establishing of fictive company incl. inputs and outputs, register of legislation), designing of environmental policy, several env.policy case studies, external communication
4. Presentation of company and its environmental policy, designing of methodology for environmental aspects assessment
5. Presentation of company environmental aspects assessment method, brainstorming for company objectives and targets setting
6. Presentation of proposed objectives and targets, organizational chart and responsibility matrix
7. Presentation of company responsibility matrix, designing the structure of employees training and education (various concepts according to working position)
8. Internal and external communication, environmental reporting
9. System of documents control, internal directive for documentation, operational control, emergency preparedness
10. Presentation of documents control directive, monitoring and internal audits

Subject syllabus:
1. Introduction – evolution of environmental protection strategies, preventative strategy, historical context (Club of Rome, Our Common Future, Agenda 21)
2. Evolution of formalized management systems (QMS, EMS, OHSAS)
3. Environmental management systems - base, why to implement in the company, connection to other managerial systems. Terminology of EMS.
4. EMS specification, how to start implementation (environmental policy, goals and targets, employees training, documentation control)
5. Tools for implementation and certification of EMS (legislation, accreditation of certification bodies)
6. Project control and its tools (LogFRAME)
7. Difficulties in EMS implementation (incl. costs and payback), benefits for company.
8. Legislation and norms for EMS (EMAS, ISO 14001)
9. Situation in CR (spreading of EMS, legislative backup)
10. Company self assessment, using ESAP tool, designing of environmental policy, register of environmental impacts in company.
11. Structure of employees training according to their position in company, designing of goals and targets from ESAP results
12. Audits of EMS – internal, external, certification. Training of internal auditors. Preparation of internal audits documents. Planning of audit follow-ups.
13. Environmental performance evaluation (ISO 14031). Implementation of product tools to EMS.
