Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
To acquaint students with the technical basics in terms of electricity generation, surface and deep mining and other related technologies (processing minerals, engineering, etc.), incl. their impact on the environment.

Summary
The course introduces students to the basic principles and terminology in the field of electricity generation, mining and related technologies. During the exercise, they will visit individual industrial monuments in the region and during the exercise they will also get acquainted with the methodology for revitalizing brownfields.

Subject syllabus:
1. Energy, possibilities of energy production, energy mix of the Czech Republic and its influence on produced pollution, renewable energy sources
2. Mining in general (basic phases - exploration and exploration of deposits, preparation of mining, execution of geological works, closure), division of the type of mining (division by location, by raw materials)
3. Deep mining (general description of the type of mining), the impact of deep mining on the environment
4. Surface mining (general description of the type of mining - overburden, mining and transport), the impact of surface mining on the environment
5. Coking industry (definition of the term coke, carbonization, description of the process in a coke oven battery), the impact of coking industry on the environment
6. Iron and cast iron, division of types and their specifications
7. Production of iron and cast iron, raw materials for production and description of production in the blast furnace
8. Iron production and agglomeration and their impact on the environment
9. Steel production, specifications of individual types of production (Martin furnaces, convectors, electric furnaces)
10. The impact of steel production on the environment
11. Hot forming of metals (rolling, tube production, wire drawing, forging)
12. Cold forming of metals (pressing), the impact of metal forming on the environment
13. Foundry (types of casting, formation of castings), the impact of foundry on the environment
14. Mechanical engineering (basics of machining), mechanical engineering (turning, drilling, milling, planing), the impact of mechanical engineering on the environment
