Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim is create an overview of the occurrence, properties and possible use of mineral and thermal water pools on the principles of design with regard to quality, treatment and disposal of pool water and pool water management areas.

Summary

he course is focused on natural mineral resources, especially mineral and thermal waters, their composition, treatment and possibilities of use, as well as on swimming pools, natural and artificial, on pool water, its treatment and disposal and on water management of swimming pools.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction - definitions; history of spas; physiological effects of bathing and swimming 2. Natural swimming pool - hygienic requirements, water monitoring, evaluation of water quality in natural swimming pools 3. Artificial swimming pools - initial design parameters, attendance, capacity of swimming pool areas, capacity of spa area 4. Artificial swimming pools - water source, quality requirements for swimming pool water 5. Recirculating pool water treatment - mechanical pre-treatment; filtration (coagulation filtration, alluvial filtration); disinfection, discharge and disposal of water, problems with swimming pool water quality 6. Natural mineral resources - their classification and basic characteristics, collection, internal and external balneation 7. Natural mineral waters of carbon dioxide - characteristics, utilization, procedures, localities in the Czech Republic 8. Natural iodine mineral waters - characteristics, utilization, procedures, localities in the Czech Republic 9. Natural mineral sulfur waters - characteristics, utilization, procedures, localities in the Czech Republic 10. Natural mineral waters, saline, alkaline, earthy, radon - characteristics, utilization, procedures, localities in the Czech Republic 11. Hot-spring gases and peloids - characteristics, utilization, procedures, localities in the Czech Republic/Slovak Republic 12. Important spa locations - Teplice nad Bečvou Spa, Priessnitz Therapeutic Spa, Klimkovice Spa 13. Important spa locations - Spa Karlovy Vary, Frantisek spa, Luhačovice spa

Conditions for subject completion and attendance at the exercises within ISP: Compensation for mandatory participation in the ISP will be the elaboration of a semester paper on a topic assigned by the lecturer. The course is completed with an oral and written examination.
