Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the discipline dealing with mineral biotechnology. The course provides information on the production of biologically active substances biotechnological methods, which are used to protect the environment. Particular attention is paid to methods and applications in the field of mineral resources. Acquired knowledge is the basis for optimization, measurement and process control.

Subject syllabus:

1. Biotechnology, their importance and distribution 2. Distribution of microorganisms used in mineral biotechnology 3. Bio-chemical oxidation of sulphides 4. Biotechnology minerals Cu, Fe, As, Zn, Sb, Pb, Al and Ti 5. Silicate microorganisms and their application in biotechnology extraction of heavy metals from silicates and alumosilicates 6. Bioaccumulation, biosorption, bioprecipitation 7. Technology using the process of bioaccumulation, biosorption, bioprecipitation, volatilization 8. Hybrid intrabiotechnology 9. Options biological-chemical removal of heavy metals from industrial waste water with sulphate-reducing bacteria 10. Bioreactors 11. Disposal of old ecological burdens 12. Basic concepts and definitions, electrochemical corrosion, electrode potentials, anodic and cathodic happening, galvanic cells, Faraday's laws, Pourbaix diagrams 13. Biocorrosion mechanisms, aerobic and anaerobic conditions, biofilms, impact redox properties, interaction with metal 14. Prevention and protection against corrosion, the corrosion resistance of metals and alloys, the choice material and its significance in terms of economic losses and protection costs corrosion
