Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course provides knowledge on the application of biological processes in the industry, particularly in the remediation of the environment affected by mining and industrial activities. Students are introduced into the issues of the currently applied industrial biotechnologies exploiting the technologies based on the interaction of live organisms and contaminants in the environment, e.g. crude oil, plastics or toxic metals. Several lectures are dedicated to the use of biotechnologies in other industrial branches, where biotechnologies have been successfully used for some time (food processing, building, and pharmaceutical industries) and point at further prospective options for their use, especially in the processes of modern methods in mining and processing of mineral resources and waste.
