Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the discipline dealing with biotechnological processes in the processing of raw materials and waste. The course provides information on the production of biologically active substances biotechnological methods, which are used to protect the environment. Particular attention is paid to methods and applications in the field of mineral resources. Acquired knowledge is the basis for optimization, measurement and process control.

Summary

Basic prerequisites and features of microorganisms’ metabolism, determination of industrially utilisable types of bacteria, moulds and fungi, including their specific classification (thiobacteria, yeasts, silicate bacteria, etc.). Biochemical and technological principles of biotechnologies in the processing of ores, non-ore materials and selected solid waste. There is also application of biotechnologies in waste water treatment, coal desulphurization and biodegradation of old ecological pollution.
