Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

To learn more about biological and biochemical processes in waste water treatment. To clarify biochemical and microbiological principles in waste water treatment and removal of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients. Using of aerobic and anaerobic processes in treatment of municipal wastewater and wastewater sludge processing. Understanding in depth the principles of the activation process, incl. its modifications, and understanding the general principles of population dynamics of activated sludge.

Teaching methods

Individual consultations

Summary

Information is provided about theoretical background and principles of biological (biochemical) treatment of municipal waters and some industrial waste waters. Impacts of technological parameters on kinetics of degradation of organic loads in wastewater by aerobic and anaerobic processes are studied. Constructions, functions and parameters of machines and equipment used for wastewater treatment and WWTP/WPP sludge dewatering and processing are clarified on the basis of technologies and biological principles of water treatment.
