Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student will get orientation in the problem of environmental chemistry with regard to pollution and pollutants, their behaviour, environmental fate and impact on environment compartment quality.
Teaching methods
Individual consultations
Summary
The subject deals with problems of effects of chemical compounds and chemical
processes on environmental compartments; soil, water and air. At first,
fundamentals of chemistry of lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and
biogeochemical cycles of chosen elements will be dealt with. In the second
part, attention will be paid to issues of acid-base, ion-exchange and
oxidation-reduction reactions of pollutants with regard to soil and water
acidification, and further, chemical and photochemical reactions in the
atmosphere, mobility and transformation of harmful substances and their
impacts on individual environmental compartments.
