Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student, after absolving the course, will be equiped by elementary competences for understanding industrial risks. He/she will be able to identify basic risks as well acute as chronic, corresponding to chemical substances, physical processes, height, pressure, energy and mass transfer and other typical processes in industry.

Summary

Basic terms and definitions – hazard, risk, probability, severity. Hazard sources and hazard transfer. Industrial activities as sources of risks to a man, the environment and industrial installations themselves. Preliminary methods of risk identification and assessment – index methods (PHA, DOW indexes, IAEA TEC-DOC ?27 ...), their uses and limitations. Tools for detailed risk analysis – trees of faults and events, HAZOP, CPQRA, MOSAR. Toxicological aspects of industrial risks, ecotoxicology. Explosions (UVCE, BLEVE, TNT model) and fires. Crisis management, emergency plans, crisis communication. Legislative aspects of industrial risks.
