Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The objective is to learn and master general principles and processes relating to the processing of water. To understand processing of ground water and surface water, production of drinking water, processing of water for industrial and technology purposes and processing of water for generation of energy. To pay a particular attention to preparation and separation of suspension, disinfection of drinking water and use of oxidising methods. To learn application of ion exchange, adsorption and membrane processes in water technology.

Summary
The subject deals with the processing of surface and ground water, production of drinking water and processing of water for technical and industrial purposes. Detailed information is provided about chemical processes and technologies used in the processing of water. In case of ground water, a particular attention is paid to de-acidification, removal of calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese. Theoretical aspects of suspension separation by bulkhead filtering and volume filtering are considered. In case of surface water, attention is paid to principles of coagulation and clarification of water. Information is provided about physical and chemical methods used in water disinfection as well as advanced separation methods by means of membrane technologies and water after-treatment. Emphasis is placed on general processes and calculations in water technology procedures.
