Summary

Předmět rozšiřuje znalostní základ o zobecňující pohled na postavení mikroorganismů na planetě Zemi i jejich úlohu v biotransformačních procesech prvků při utváření funkčních bio-geochemických vztahů v ekosystémech. Předmět je zaměřen na interakci mikroorganismů s nerosty a horninami, studenti získají informace o významu mikroorganismů v širších geochemických souvislostech, neboť jako aktivní biologičtí činitelé aktivně zasahují do struktury minerálů a tím přispívají k utváření surovinových zdrojů. Předmět shrnuje poznatky o úloze mikroorganismů při získávání a zpracování nerostných surovin, o možnostech jejich praktické aplikace v úpravnických procesech, v technologiích využití odpadů po těžbě a zpracování nerostných surovin a jejich úloze v revitalizaci prostředí po důlní a průmyslové činnosti.

Subject syllabus:

The importance of microorganisms in the origin of life on Earth, diversification of the biosphere Metabolism of microorganisms, bioenergetics, main biogeochemical pathways, role of microorganisms in cycles of biogenic elements 3. Effect of microorganisms on the mobility of contaminants, chemical reactivity of cell surfaces, processes of biological transformation - biosorption, bioaccumulation and biovolatilization 4. The role of microorganisms in processes of biological metal extraction, bioleaching and biooxidation of minerals and rocks 5. The role of microorganisms in processes of biological weathering and biological oxidation of minerals, biomineralization and biofossilization, industrial and environmental impacts of these processes 6. The role of microorganisms in the revitalization of the environment after mining and industrial activities - biodegradation and bioremediation 7. Use of microorganisms in modern mining and mineral processing, the importance of mineral biotechnologies for the recovery of economically significant metals 8. Taxonomy of microorganisms, their diversity in the extreme environments on Earth, in anthropogenically contaminated ecosystems 9. Information Science Resources about microorganisms, scientific publications, professional journals and online resources
