Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course aims to acquaint students with the methods of processing and use of mine water, the properties of mine water related to the extraction of coal and ores, the processes and technologies of mine water purification and treatment, including mine water use. Basic skills and competence: • students know of the occurrences and accumulations of mine water from coal and ore extraction in the CR; • students are able to assess mine water properties; • students are able to assess the potential of mine water as a resource; • students are able to propose a process or a technology for mine water treatment and purification; • students know the relevant legislation, particularly the legislation on water; • students are able to obtain, evaluate and interpret the obtained information; • students are able to work independently with a scholarly text in a foreign language; • students learn practical laboratory skills; • students learn to apply the obtained theoretical knowledge in practice in dealing with research tasks; • students learn to publish on the topic of mine water in Czech and in a foreign language

Summary

The course focuses on mine water related to localities with the on-going extraction of mineral resources as well as post-mining localities. It provides students with the knowledge on water processes and technologies applicable in mine water treatment and purification. Mine water must be regarded as a potential water resource and it is important to propose its further uses, e.g. at the times of drought. The course acquaints students with mine water treatment and use options, particularly with mine water properties from coal and ore extraction, with processes and technologies for mine water purification and treatment, including the options for its further use.
