Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the course is to lead students to understand the biochemical and biological basis of biotechnological processes and to deepen students' readiness to solve contamination problems within individual components of the environment by selected alternative methods of contaminant removal.
KNOWLEDGE PROVEN AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE: Acquisition of basic knowledge about alternative methods of removing contaminants from the environment and their recovery. SKILLS PROVEN AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE: Gaining the competence to work in companies dealing with remediation methods, treatment of minerals. They will be able to plan and appropriately apply alternative methods in practice.

Summary
The course is focused on new alternative technologies that offer advantageous ways of removing and recovering hazardous substances from the environment. Biosorption and bioremediation are becoming increasingly important as alternative technologies for removing contaminants (heavy metals, problematic organic compounds) from the environment. It offers an effective, non-destructive and inexpensive way to remove contaminants. Emphasis is placed not only on explaining the principles of individual alternative methods but especially on the possibilities of their use in practice.
