Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The main aim of this subject is to introduce students into the basic geoinformatics terms. The course participant gets knowledge of GIS applications. This know how can be used as a tool within other dominant subjects studies.

Summary
Objects, phenomena and processes of real world. Earth sciences. Geometric feature and components of feature description (geometric, thematic, time, relation and functional). Spatial analysis using GIS. Network analysis. Allocation of resources and path finding. Fire station location planning and service areas design. Modelling and visualisation of floods. Modelling and visualisation of dangerous chemicals spread in the atmosphere. Computer-aided dispatch. Using GIS for emergency call centres of Integrated rescue system (IRS).
- GIS Applications for Fire and Rescue Service Operations. Using global navigation and positioning systems for data collection and navigation. Mobile GIS technologies application.
