Summary

Basic principles for spatial data publishing on WWW. Software overview. Basic rules for building GeoWeb applications. Java language and its possibilities for GeoWeb. XML language. SVG format. Web Map Service (WMS). Web Feature Service (WFS). Basics for VRML. Practical excercises on UMN Map Server and JShape.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Students' knowledge acquisition is continuously verified during lessons. Students work on individual projects within which they demonstrate the acquired knowledge. At the end of the semester, students present and defend their projects. Students' knowledge is tested by a written exam at the end of the semester.

Subject syllabus:

1) Basic principles for publishing geodata in WWW. 2) Overview of commercial and non commercial solutions. 3) Basics for building WWW geodata presentations. 4) Java language for publishing. 5) XML and SVG for publishing. 6) Web Map Service (WMS). Web Feature Service (WFS). 7) Map API 8) Practical work with non commercial products.

Conditions for subject completion and attendance at the exercises within ISP: Lectures for self-study of course material available at https://geoinformatika-1.vsb.cz/kuk064/. Consulations with the lecturer can be held online or in person. Participation in exercises according to the student's availability. To obtain credits, the student must complete and hand-in a final project assigned by the instructor no later than the end of the examination period of the semester. The exam must be taken in person.
