Subject syllabus:
1. Genesis of caustobioliths. History of caustobioliths utilization, present status and perspective. The main world caustobioliths resources. Economic and environmental aspects of the fuel utilization.
2. Coal petrography. Current views on the composition and structure of coal. Chemistry of combustion, gasification and coal carbonization. The process of self-combustion. Possibilities of obtaining liquid fuels from coal. Clean Coal Technology. Non-energy use of coal and products of its processing. Chemistry of tar and pitch.
3.Crude oil, its composition and classification. Recovery, primary processing, transport and storage. Chemical processes of oil refining. Oil and the environment. Biological degradation of petroleum and petroleum derivatives. The production of fuels and lubricants. Fuel combustion in diesel and gasoline engines. Heating oil. Asphalt.
4. Natural gas. Gaseous fuels in transportation. Gasification of coal. Syngas. Reactors for gasification. Underground gasification.
5.Alternative fuels. Extra heavy oils, bituminous sands and kerogen rocks.
