Target of the course is to provide an overview of the current organic chemistry with special respect to the problematic aspects of the particular doctor thesis.

Summary
Binding properties of carbon atom. Stereochemistry of organic molecules. Thermodynamics and kinetics of reactions. Photochemistry. Pyrolysis of organic compounds. Overview of hydrocarbons, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur derivatives, halogenated and heterocyclic compounds. Macromolecular compounds (structure, properties, production and utilization). Technological and ecological aspects of organic chemistry.

Subject syllabus:
1.Theory of chemical bonds. Intermolecular interactions. Binding properties of carbon. Allotropy of carbon.
2. Stereochemistry of organic molecules. Molecular symmetry. Polymerism and isomerism. Structure vs. properties of organic compounds.
3. Thermodynamics and kinetics of reactions.Teory of transition state. Reaction mechanisms and methods for their study. Catalysis.
4.Photochemistry. Photochemical excitation. .Study of mechanisms of photochemical reactions. Photochemistry of major groups of organic substances.
5.Pyrolysis of organic compounds (chemistry, industrial applications of pyrolysis). Coal substance and the process of pyrolysis. Contemporary views on the structure of coal. The theory of the coking process.
6. Major groups of organic compounds. Overview of chemistry of hydrocarbons, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and halogen derivatives.
7.Technological important groups of organic substances (production, utilization, environmental and toxicological characteristics). Petrochemistry.
8. Macromolecular substances (classification, structure, properties versus structure, the basic reactions of polymers, an overview of the most important groups of technical polymers).
