Target of the course is to provide an overview of the current organic chemistry with special respect to the problematic aspects of the particular doctor thesis.

Summary

Binding properties of carbon atom. Stereochemistry of organic molecules. Thermodynamics and kinetics of reactions. Photochemistry. Pyrolysis of organic compounds. Overview of hydrocarbons, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur derivatives, halogenated and heterocyclic compounds. Macromolecular compounds (structure, properties, production and utilization). Technological and ecological aspects of organic chemistry.

Subject syllabus:

1. The theory of the chemical bond. Intermolecular interactions. Binding properties of carbon. Allotropie and forms of carbon. 2. Stereochemistry of organic molecules. The molecular symmetry. Polymerie and isomerism. Structure versus properties of organic compounds. 3. Thermodynamics and kinetics of chemical processes. The theory of the activated complex. Reaction mechanisms and methods of their study. Catalysis. Photochemical reactions. 4. Pyrolysis of organic matter (chemism, industrial use of pyrolysis. Coal substance and its pyrolysis processes. Present views on the structure of coal. Physico-chemical properties of coal. Theory coking process. 5. Important groups of organic compounds. Overview chemistry of hydrocarbons and their oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and halogenated derivatives (selection of those items with an emphasis on substance important for the specific PhD work). 6. Technically a significant group of organic substances (manufacture, use, ecological and toxicological characteristics. Petrochemical production. Importance of organic compounds in metallurgical production and associated ecology. 7. Macromolecular substance (division structure, properties versus structure, the basic the reaction and the formation of polymeric substances overview technically most significant polymers).
