Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will be able to: -understand the relationship between structure and properties of carbonaceous substances -carry out mass and energy balances of processes and assess their effectiveness -interpret the results of sorption measurements and assess the effect of activation conditions on sorbent properties -assess the suitability of carbonaceous raw materials for a given technological process

Summary

The subject leads to a deeper understanding of how the chemical structure affects the properties and application possibilities of carbonaceous materials. It is focused to elemental forms of carbon, inorganic and organic compounds of carbon and carbonaceous macromolecular substances. It explains the chemistry of pyrolysis processes, combustion, gasification and graphitization of carbonaceous matter. Attention is also paid to modern materials: carbon fibers, composites, sorbents and nanomaterials.
