Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of subject is to acquaint students with basic laboratory operations used in the chemical laboratory. Principle of subject is to understand the fundamentals of particular operations and to prove the laboratory skills.

Teaching methods

Experimental work in labs


The subject acquaints students with chemical practice during excursion in the chemical plant. In the chemical laboratories the students learn the basic operations used in analytical and physical chemistry. The subject is concluded by credit. For the award of credit is required to submit a report of excursion and all laboratory reports.

Subject syllabus:

1. Excursion in the chemical plant. 2. The principle and basic analytical operations involved in the gravimetric determination: weighing, precipitation, filtration, drying, calculation of the determined substance in the sample. 3. The principle and basic analytical operations involved in the volumetric determination: measuring of a volume of liquid sample, transfer a solid sample into the solution, work with pipette, titration, indication of an equivalence point, calculation of the determined substance in the sample. 4. The basic operations used in physical chemistry: a measurement of viscosity and density of liquids, a measurement of gas flow.
