Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

- student will be able to characterise blast furnace ironmaking - student will be able to explain direct and indirect reduction - student will be able to divide pig irons by type and quality

Teaching methods

Summary

Raw materials and their properties. Iron ores and their dressing, sintering, pelletizing. Testing of ores, sintrers and pellets. Blast furnace fuels, blast air. Blast furnace aerodynamics. Reactions in combustion zone. Thermodynamics and kinetics of iron oxides reduction. Reduction of various elements. Direct an indirect reduction. Systems of importance in ironmaking. Formation, composition and properties of blast furnace slag. Removal of sulphur. Grade of pig irons. Ecological aspects of ironmaking. DRI production. Smelting reduction processes.

Subject syllabus:

Suroviny pro výrobu surového železa a jejich vlastnosti. Paliva pro výrobu surového železa. Zásadité přísady. Spékání železných rud. Výroba pelet. Vysokopecní výroba železa. Reakce v oxidačních pásmech vysoké pece. Plynodynamika vysoké pece. Termodynamika a kinetika redukce oxidů železa ve vysoké peci. Přímá a nepřímá redukce. Redukce ostatních prvků. Termodynamické systémy důležité pro výrobu železa. Vznik složení a vlastnosti vysokopecní strusky. Odsiřování ve vysoké peci. Druhy a kvalita surových želez. Základy technologie výroby surového železa. Zařízení vysokopecního závodu. Ekologické aspekty výroby železa. Přímá výroba železa z rud. Tavná redukce a jiné metody výroby železa.
