Student will be able formulate : - basics principle of alternative ironmaking methods - perspectives of alternative ironmaking methods - principle of direct reduction processes and smelting reduction

Teaching methods

Summary

Direct reduction processes. Shaft furnace processes Midrex and HyL. Advance technology - Iron Carbide and FastMet. Virgin iron production process for scrap based steelmaking. Smelting reduction. Cokeless hot metal production. Corex process description and feasibility estimation. Production hot briquetted iron. Environmental benefits. Autoreforming reduction technology. Plasma and electric furnaces. New concepts for converting iron ore to steel. Ironmaking processes comparative evaluation.

Subject syllabus:

Procesy přímé výroby železa z rud. Výroba železné houby v šachtových pecích a retortách. Výroba železného prášku ve fluidizačních reaktorech. Technologie výroby karbidů železa. Výroba surového železa metodami tavné redukce. Technologie tavné redukce bez dospalování COREX. Metody tavné redukce s dospalováním a jejich další vývoj. Analytické hodnocení technologické činnosti tavné redukce. Ekologické aspekty alternativních způsobů výroby železa.
