Summary
The subject is focused on improvement and advancement of knowledge about metals (iron and non iron metals - copper, lead, tin, zinc, nickel, alluminium, magnesium) and theirs properties, metallugical raw materials - ores, fuels, auxilliary additives. Hot metal - blast furnace raw materials and process products. Cast iron production. BOF and EAF steel production. Secondary metallurgy processes and steel casting. Economic and environmental aspects of main metallurgical technologies.

Part 1- Non-ferrous metals
1. Introduction to non-ferrous metals production
2. Hydrometallurgy

Part 2- Ironmaking
1.Theoretical processes in blast furnace.Charge and processes in blast furnace
2.Theoretical reducing gas consumption. Quality control of pig iron in blast furnace
3.Alternative methods of pig iron production.Direct reduction and smelting reduction.
4.Trends and innovative in blast furnace processes. Ecological problems of pig iron production
Part 3- Steelmaking
1. The history of steel production. Methods of steel production today.
2. Chemical reaction for steel production.
3. Production of steel in oxygen converters and tandem furnaces.
4. Production of steel in electric arc furnaces. Secondary metallurgy
EXCERCISE
Part 1- Non-ferrous metals
1. Introduction do the non-ferous processes, basic physical chemical processes
2. Hydrometallurgy, basic terms
3. Pyrometallurgy, basic terms
Part 2- Ironmaking
1. Introduction, definition of key variables and concept. Calculations of the iron amount from different charge types
2. Calculation of the quantity of alkaline additives in the blast furnace charge, data for individual semestral work
3. Calculation of the amount of top gas and the amount of dry wind blowing.Partial elemental carbon balance in the blast furnace, determining the amount of carbon burned at the tuyeres and carbon for direct reduction
4. Material balance blast furnace process, the determination of direct and indirect reduction, data for paper presentation. The actual presentation of results and elaboration of final test
Part 3- Steelmaking
1. Steel norms and examples.
2 The reaction between metal and slag, steel decarburization, calculations.
3 Desulfurization reaction, examples of calculations.
4 Calculating material and heat balance of the LD process. Main dimension of electric arc furnaces
