Student will be able to formulate : - principles of ironmaking fundamentals - basic principles of blast furnace aerodynamics

Summary

Properties of iron ores, sinters, pellets, fluxes and metallurgical fuels and their testing. Physico-chemical processes of sintering and pelletizing. Thermodynamic, kinetic and thermal processes of blast furnace combustion zone. Blast furnace aerodynamics. Reactions in blast furnace :volatiliozation, decomposition of hydrates, water-gas shift reaction, carbon deposition, decomposition of carbonates ect. Iron oxides reduction. Direct and indirect reduction. Effect of direct reduction on coke rate. Optimum coke rate calculation. Reduction of various elements.

Subject syllabus:

LECTURES 1.Properties of iron ores, sinters, pellets, fluxes and metallurgical fuels and their testing. 2. Physico-chemical processes of sintering and pelletizing. 3. Thermodynamic, kinetic and thermal processes of blast furnace combustion zone. 4. Blast furnace aerodynamics. 5. Reactions in blast furnace :volatiliozation, decomposition of hydrates, water-gas shift reaction, carbon deposition, decomposition of carbonates ect. 6. Iron oxides reduction. 7. Direct and indirect reduction. 8. Effect of direct reduction on coke rate. 9. Optimum coke rate calculation. 10. Reduction of various elements. 11. Carbonizing of pig iron 12. Sorts of quality pig iron PRAKTICE (only for full-time study form): 1. Introduction, definition of key variables and concept, planning of excursions. 2. Data for individual Semestral work, thermodynamic, kinetic and thermal processes of blast furnace combustion zone. 3. Individual calculations of input data 4.Seminary 1 :Presentation of results semestral work. Discussion. 5. Calculations from chemical equations 6. Special Excursion : ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s. 7. Special Excursion : Třinecké železárny a.s. 8. Seminary 2 : Reports of excursion, presentation of results, discussion 9. Reactions in blast furnace 10. Optimum coke rate calculation. 11. Calculations use of heat energy of carbon and heat efficiency of reduction gases CO, CO2 12. Evaluation exercise (Semestral work, reports of excursion) To obtain credit in the combined study form is needed to develop a session project.
