Student will be able to formulate : - basic principles of pig iron production and blast furnace pig iron production - perspectives of metallurgy - charging of blast furnace and charge distribution on blast furnace throat

Summary

Blast furnace charge and its components. Metalliferrous part of the charge, fuels and slag-making materials. Classification of iron ores. Chemical, physical and technological characteristics of metalliferrous raw materials. Kinds and characters of metallurgical coke. Its role in the blast furnace. Sintering of iron ores. Preparation and constitution of sintering charge. Sintering processes in the temperature and gas dynamical point of view. Physical – chemical processes in the sintered layer. Sinter characters. Principles of sinter production technology. Pelletizing of fine grained materials. Production of pellets and their compacting. Pre-reduced materials. Environmental protection during the processing of materials for pig iron production. only for Ph.D. study

The basic elements of blast furnaces charge and demands on its quality.Characteristics smallgrain materials. Iron ores and their treatment. Chemical, mineralogical, physical and metallurgical properties of raw ore materials. Homogenization of iron ores.
