Summary

The subject is focused on improvement basic knowledge of alternative technologies outside the blast furnace ironmaking only for Ph.D. students. Analysis of basic contemporary trends in pig iron production. Main ways of blast furnace technology modification. Principal changes in blast furnace aggregate operating, in raw materials composition and energetic security of the process. Technical equipment of aggregates. Complex automatic system of operating, coke replace by dust coal, oxygen, pellets, metallized charge application. Processing of pig iron and modification its characters out of blast furnace. Alternative methods of iron production. The most widespread ways of direct reduction within pig iron production in Czech conditions.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures 1. Characteristics of the development of iron and steel in the world and in CR. Energy and raw limit further development. Main drawbacks of the present-day technology of iron production. Tradition and historical context. 2. The importance of changes in raw material provision of the steel industry to develop new ironmaking alternative technology. Lump ore, metal-bearing wastes and their treatment. 3. Alternative reduction technology. Fuels provisions. Complementarity functions fuel. New unconventional sources of fuels and reducing agents. 4. Distribution of alternative technologies in the field of direct reduction and smelting reduction. Basic charakteristics threats technological processes. Discussion of deficiencies and merits of alternative ironmaking technology. Comparisons with conventional blast furnace production. 5. Production of sponge iron, respectively. metallized product (HBI). Specifications reduction process, the factors influencing the level (degree) metallization. Possibilities of modeling the kinetics of reduction gas. Submission of exercise for the seminar. 6. Seminar on the reduction problems. Ore charge in the blast furnace and fluidized bed reactor. Discussion of the results of the seminar task. 7. Description and critical assessment of technologies Midrex Hyl. The advantages, prospects and problems of hydrogen metallurgy in particular in connection with the use of carbon and degazation gas, liquid pyrolysis products, waste oils from petroleum refining and coal. 8.The pssibility of adapting coal based allothemic steelmaking processes for direct smelting of iron ore. Environmental protection for this processses. 9. Technological principles of the most widespread used technology smelting reduction. Ambivalence of reducing and heat balance over the reduction shaft. 10.Duplex technology partial metallization blast-furnace materials. Waste treatment options. Duplex COREX-Midrex. 11. Environmental benefits of alternative methods.Duplex technology partial metallization blast-furnace materials. Waste treatment options.
