Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Acquired knowledge: - the student will be able to explain the basic function of furnaces for melting ferrous and non-ferrous alloys - the student will be able to the basic procedures for melting ferrous and non-ferrous alloys - the student will be able to knowledge technological and metallurgical processes molten ferrous and non-ferrous alloys for casting molds , with a focus on artistic castings Acquired skills: - the student will be able to use their basic knowledge to determine of appropriateness metallurgical processes for melting ferrous and non-ferrous alloys - the student will be able to apply procedures for processing ferrous and non-ferrous alloys - the student will be able to prepare and cast ferrous and non-ferrous alloys into molds with a focus on artistic castings

Summary

Practical tuition concerning the melting of alloys is intended to obtain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the area of the melting of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. They will be used in the preparation of melt for casting art castings.

Subject syllabus:

1) Introduction to the history of production of non-ferrous and ferrous metals till present times. 2) Field trip to the foundry shop, specialised on production of art castings. 3) Basic parameters of electric medium frequency induction furnaces suitable from measuring of ferrous alloys. 4) Basic metallurgical and technological procedures of secondary metallurgy treatment of ferrous alloys. 5) Practical training of metallurgical and technological procedures for preparation of steel to castings, including casting into moulds. 6) Practical training of metallurgical and technological procedures for preparation of cast iron, including casting into moulds. 7) Practical training of main methods for secondary metallurgy treatment of steel for castings and cast iron, including influencing the final structure of the casting by inoculation and modification. 8) Field trip to the foundry shop, specialised on production of art castings. 9) Basic parameters of electric low frequency induction and resistance furnaces, shaft furnaces, flame and crucible furnaces suitable for melting of non-ferrous alloys. 10) Basic metallurgical and technological procedures of secondary metallurgy treatment of non-ferrous alloys. 11) Practical training of metallurgical and technological procedures for preparation of tin bronze, including casting into moulds. 12) Individual preparation of the mould for casting of an art casting, participation at preparation of liquid phase of the alloy, its secondary metallurgy treatment and casting.
