Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Acquired knowledge:
- student will be able to characterize control methods of casting mechanical
properties (non - destructive and destructive methods of testing)
- student will be able to orientate at casting defects classification and to know causes of casting defect formation and prevention of its formation
- student will be able to orientate at systems and instruments of quality management
Acquired skills:
- student will be able to predict mutual interactions of molten phase – foundry mold system
- student will be able to apply methods of statistical analysis and to elucidate the results (regular diagrams).

Summary
The subject is focused on diagnostic and casting quality control. Students are acquainted with casting defects classification according to Czech and international standards. The attention is devoted to causes of casting defect formation and prevention of its formation. Basic methods of quality control and testing methods of casting properties are also presented here.

Subject syllabus:
1. Introduction to organization and quality control of production, quality costs, ISO standards, analysis of casting defects, classification
2. Methods of mathematical – statistical analysis, statistical control of casting quality
3. Systems of production and castings quality reinsurance, systems of quality control, regulative diagrams
4. Control of molding mixture quality, control of molten metal quality, temperature measuring
5. Methods of thermal analysis – thermal and dilatometric analysis, DTA
6. Tests of basic technological and foundry properties of metals
7. Non – destructive methods of mechanical properties testing, control of structure material
8. Defectoscopic test of castings (visual, capillary, magnetic, ultrasonic, X-ray )
9. Defects of casting shape, size and weight. Defects of casting surface
10. Casting solidification. Casting defect formation due to coherence failure, hot and cold cracks formation
11. Casting defects caused by gas – gas holes, pinholes, shrinkage cavities
12. Macroscopic inclusions, inclusions and defects of microstructure
13. Defects of chemical composition and casting properties
14. Output control of castings, „Zero Defect“ system, expert systems
