Summary

The subject is aimed at possibilities of using the numeric modelling methods and their applications in simulation programs destined for supporting of casting and solidification of castings. It makes acquainted the students with a possibility of the design solution, elimination of defects and prediction of properties and structure of a casting. Possibilities of using the simulation programs for special and non-traditional processes of casting manufacture are presented here too.

Subject syllabus:

1. Basic utilization of computer technology for simulating of casting and solidification of castings 2. Modeling of physical properties of materials including comprehensive computing analysis 3. Creation and processing of a virtual pattern including a design of a gating system (GS), technological allowances and the mold design 4. Definition and determination of initial and edge conditions during designing a prototype and manufacturing processes 5. A principle of numerical modeling with a ProCAST & QuikCAST method. Determination of input conditions, processing of a geometrical model. 6. Checking of the designed casting geometry and the GS. Identification and prediction of possible defects, elimination of casting thermal nodes, solution of internal stresses and volume changes. 7. Utilization of simulation programs for special technologies of casting manufacture – pressure and centrifugal casting, investment pattern casting 8. Review of simulation programs for the casting design, simulation of casting properties, possibilities of their additional applications
