- to use of the kinetic equations for chemical first-order reactions, second-order reactions and reactions of higher orders,
- to describe and analyse the reaction mechanism based on the kinetic data,
- to describe and qualified estimate kinetic parameters of chemical reactions,

The topic of the subject is theoretical foundation in the area of physical
chemistry principles to particular heterogeneous reactions.
Chapter selection will be made based on the orientation of the doctoral dissertation together with the supervisor.

Subject syllabus:
Terminology in chemical kinetics. Homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions.
Dependence of reaction rate on selected factors.
Reaction rate theory.
Kinetics of heterogeneous processes, basic steps of heterogeneous reaction. Mechanisms and mathematical description of diffusion - molecular, convective and turbulent diffusion. Fick's laws, diffusion flow. Diffusion (transport) limited reactions - basic principles – external and internal diffusion. Heterogeneous process with consecutive and concurrent steps, diffusion and chemical resistance. Diffusion limited heterogeneous process.
Surface phenomena and surface properties of solid compounds. Electronic structure and adsorption properties of metals, adsorption on semi-conductors and insulators.
Adsorption at the solid/gas interface and solid/liquid interface. Adsorption isotherms. Temperature and pressure effect on adsorption and desorption processes. Examples of surface processes application.
Kinetics of heterogeneous processes in first order systems - melting, evaporation, sublimation, solidification (crystallization) condensation, polymorphic transformations. Examples kinetics in second and higher order systems.
Principles of catalysis, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. Intermediate steps and kinetics of homogeneous catalytic reactions. Acid-basic catalysis.
Kinetics and basic notions of heterogeneous catalytic mechanisms reactions. Catalysis on metals and non-metals.
Kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic reactions, mechanism, basic ideas of
heterogeneous catalysis reactions. Catalysis by metals and non-metals.
Kinetics and mechanism of reactions of gaseous components catalyzed by solid
catalyst. Choice of catalyst – theory.
Industrial application of heterogeneous catalysis.
