Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will be introduced to toxicology of nanomaterials including significant properties of various types of nanomaterials of synthetic and natural origin and nanomaterials originating unintentionally as by-products of anthropogenic activities and sources emitting nanomaterials to single part of the environment. Students will be able to define potential interactions of nanomaterials with living systems on molecular, cellular and organ levels and describe toxic character of selected nanomaterials including basic methods of toxicity testing.

Summary

The subject is focused on deepening student's understanding in the field of biological effects of nanomaterials, physical-chemical parameters of nanomaterials which has impact on biological effects. The subject provides comprehensive overview on experimental methods for toxicity testing of nanomaterials, including methods for characterization of nanomaterials needed for interpretation of biotesting. The aspect of legislative frame related to usage and regulation of nanomaterials is included as well.
