Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The student will be able as follows: to analyse and compare basic methods of mould- and core-making; to describe basic processes during forming a casting from pouring it up to metal cooling; to explain the formation of the most important casting defects; to describe material and foundry properties of cast metals.

Mathematical solution of the course of solidification 7. Superficial and internal defects of castings, 8. Condensing zone of water and its consequences, origination of scabs 9. Gases picked up in metals, 10. Foundry stress; shrinkage, 11. Die casting. High-pressure, 12. Production of precise castings 13. Steels for castings; carbon and alloyed steels. 14. Graphitization iron alloys.
