Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The student will be able as follows:
- to define and compare basic types of alloys based on nonferrous metals used for casting manufacture;
- to know principles of metallurgical treatment of individual foundry alloys;
- to gain an ability of designing a suitable technological process for manufacture of castings from basic types of alloys;
- to analyse nonferrous metal casting defects.
Teaching methods
Summary
Distribution of non-ferrous metals and their alloys. Thermal questions of
melting – theoretical consumption of energy. Melting units for melting alloys
of non-ferrous metals. The physical and chemical processes among the charging
materials and the environment at the furnaces. Calculations of charged
materials. Gases picked-up and dissolubility of the individual gases. Review
of
the degassing methods of the alloys of non-ferrous metals. Influencing the as-
cast structure, inoculation and modification. Thermal analysis of alloys as a
method of investigation into quality of alloys. The testing pieces and methods
of examination of mechanical properties.
