Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will be able to describe basic types of casting molds and their use in the manufacture of castings Students will know the rules of using different types of molding compounds, their properties and application specific types of castings Students will be able to explain the principles of positive and negative rectified solidification Students will be able to solve static and dynamic lift molds and cores Students will be able to explain the emergence of major casting defects Students will know the principles of casting methods, especially using high pressure to the surface metal monocoque molding and casting

Summary

Lectures: 1. Foundry mould-core, sand mixtures of the I. to IV. Generation 2. Gating of castings, calculation of gatings, 3. Upward pressure of mould and of cores, crystallization and solidification of castings. 4. Changes in volume of metal at solidification and elimination of the thermal nodal sites in casting 5. Heat transmission between casting and mould 6. Defects in castings, running property of liquid metal, condensing zone of water and its consequences on the surface defects 7. Defects due to stress (overflows, scabs), penetration of liquid metal into mould, surface roughness of castings. 8. Failed compactness of castings, the mechanism of initiation of fissures and cracks. Foundry stress 9. Fabrication of castings by application of elevated pressure at the liquid- metal surface 10. Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1st Foundry mold-core, forming a mixture of first-IV.generace. 2nd Silt casting system, the calculation of gating, and pressure vacuum system 3rd Lift molds and cores, solidification and crystallization. Homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation, primary crystallization, segregation (odmíšeniny) and segregations. 4th Volume changes of the metal during solidification and disposal of heat units in a cast 5th Heat transfer between the casting and form 6th Casting defects, fluidity of metals, water condensation zone and its implications for surface defects. 7th Defects of the tension (výronky, Clean finish), penetration of metal into a mold, casting roughness. Exogenous and endogenous bubble, quills. 8th Violation of related castings, the mechanism of cracks and fissures. Foundry stress. 9th Casting effect of increased pressure on the metal surface. 10th Spec method of casting, vacuum suction, natuhávání with discharge, methods for casting precision castings. 11th Cast steel. Carbon and alloy steel. Metallurgy production. 12th Graphitizing alloy of iron metallurgy production. 13th Design considerations, the principle of optimal design. 14th Nodular cast iron, metallurgy, nonferrous metals. Criteria for evaluation of iron, structure diagrams.
