Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
to define influences affecting foundry processes;
to describe basic processes during forming a casting from pouring it up to metal cooling;
to know the method of calculating the gating system;
to know the method of calculating the risers;
to explain the conception of controlled solidification.
Teaching methods
Lectures
Summary
Structure and physical properties of molten metals. The principles of metal
flowing, pressure conditions in gatings. The running property of liquid metals
and alloys and their coherence with the design of castings. The thermal and
physical processes in a casting and in a mould. Interaction between casting
and mould. Crystallization and solidification of castings.
