Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

to interpret results of simulation programmes of foundry processes; to know the principles of economical casting design; to know the means of computer support of foundry technologies; to analyse the casting design feasibility.

Teaching methods

Summary

Importance and position of TPP in the foundry. Costs reduction and the correlation between costs and casting quality. Casting costs reduction and impact of new technology processes : The feeding aids. Increasing the casting yield and homogenity. The filtration of molten metals in the mould. Increasing of the dimensional accuracy of castings. The cooperation between the foundry technologist and designer. The casting dimension and designing for minimum wall thickness. Část shapes and section changes. Designing for economical molding. Designing for economical coring. Designing for minimum stress concentraiion and avoid hot and cold tears. Designing for economical fettling of casting. Designing castings with different wall thickness and hot spots. Replacing of other technological processes (weldments, stampings, forgings) by cast metals. Emerging technologies in the cast metals industry and designing specialities Foundry process simulation for technological support.
