Summary

This subject represents a wider application basis of the magisterial study in the field of foundry. It is widening the profound knowledge on the most- extensive iron alloy used in the foundry practice – especially the high-grade cast irons such as the grey cast iron, alloyed cast irons, malleable cast irons and the spheroidal graphite cast irons. It provides a review on the structural and technological properties and on the application routes of the graphitic cast irons in the foundry. Particular stress is laid on replacement of the energy-demanding technologies and materials for castings of high-grade cast irons. In the framework of this subject there are taught the technological principles of gatings and of risering the graphitic cast irons with attention devoted to the economy.
