Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student will able:
to know the rules for using quartz and non-quartz base sands;
to know processes of the cooling effect control of a foundry mould;
to explain kinds and importance of base sands surfaces and principles of their
measurements;
to know types and means for reclamation of foundry base sands;
to analyze physical and chemical nature of binding property and strength of moulding
mixtures;
to explain principles of classification of binder systems of the Ist up to IVth generation;
to design a binder system for the given technological process of casting manufacture;
to explain physical principles of binding the mixtures of the IIIrd generation;
to describe chemical hardening processes of inorganic and organic binders
(condensation, polymerization, addition, copolymerization).

Summary
Opening materials of the sand mixtures, quartz and non-silica opening
materials, granulometric composition, activation of the opening materials,
regeneration. The bonding-agent systems I. to IV., generation, chemical
treatment in preparation of moulds and cores. Mixtures with alkaline
silicates, application of macromolecular chemistry in the bonding-agent
systems. The principles of physical bonding, the V-method, the EFF-SET
process. The interaction of mould vers. Metal, defects in castings – effect of
mould and of cores. The gaseous regime of a foundry mould, burning-in of
castings. The lustrous carbon and its role at formation of the surface of a
casting.

Evaluation of the quality synthetic and natural sand.
Regeneration, the quality of regenerate.
Natural sands. Inorganic and organic binder.
Interaction binder-sand.
Activation of grog.
Process of CO2, SO2-process, Hot Box, Cold Box.
The fully forms.
Special technology of molds and cores art castings.
Plaster molds
(hard mix), Lost Foam, organobentonity, cement mixture,
Shaw-method, silicone-rubber-method, Lost Foam, Replicast.
