Summary

The subject is focused on the technological aspects of hot and cold rolling of metallic materials (mainly steels).

Compulsory literature:

GINZBURG, V. B.: Steel-Rolling Technology, Theory and Practice. New York : Marcel Dekker, Inc., 1989.

Recommended literature:

GINZBURG, V. B.: Metallurgical Design of Flat Rolled Steels. New York : Marcel Dekker, Inc., 2005.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

4 pointwise assessed reports appropriate experiments during education

E-learning

Other requirements

Attendance at seminars at least 70%. Passing the test and delivery of programs.

Prerequisities

Subject has no prerequisities.

Co-requisities

Subject has no co-requisities.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures 1. Assortment of formed products. 2. Rolling mills – types. 3. Rolling mills – equipment. 4. Fundamentals of longitudinal rolling. 5. Blanks – continuous casting, forming. 6. Rolling of heavy plates. 7. Hot rolling of strips. 8. Cold rolled flat products. 9. Rolling of bars and sections. 10. Rolling of wire. 11. Production of seamless tubes. 12. Production of welded tubes. Exercises 1. Calculations of dimensional changes, evaluation of deformation, check of the law of volume preservation at rolling. 2. Rolling of the lead slab on sheet of required sizes (report). 3. Calculations of parameters of deformation zone and starting rolling conditions in flat rolls. 4. Experimental evaluation of friction coefficient during cold rolling – utilizing wedge-shaped sample and slab from lead. 5. Check of spreading depending on width by rolling triangular samples (report). 6. Practical evaluation of the forward slip depending on slab thickness and lubrication (report). 7. Calculation of power-force parameters during rolling. 8. Practical check on power-force parameters on laboratory rolling mill, connected with evaluation of thermal and deformation conditions of rolling and their influence on microstructural and mechanical properties of hot formed steel – experiment practically fills 3 exercises (report).
