Student will be able to: - explain the rules of plastic deformation, formability and structure-forming processes in forming; - apply the technological operations of hot and cold forming.

Summary

The subject is focused on theoretical and technological basis of forming, accenting the structure-forming processes, deformation behaviour and their impact on structure and final properties.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures 1. Mechanisms and rules of plastic deformation. 2. Teminology, research of formability. 3. Structure development and final properties. 4. Factors influencing formability of metallic materials. 5. Softening processes and precipitation. 6. Laboratory research and description of flow stress. 7. Particularity of forming of the continuously cast products. 8. Equipment of forming plants. 9. Theory of rolling and calibration. 10. Assortment and technologies in rolling mills. 11. Production of pipes. 12. Cold forming. 13. Smith forging and stamping. 14. Particularity of forming the selected alloys. Exercises 1. Basic principle of the plastic deformation – computational example 2. Formulation of dimensional changes at forming – computational example, test 3. Verification of principle of volume preservation at laboratory sheet rolling, report 4. Entry of the workpiece into the roll gap - practical example, report 5. Determination of mean flow stress and forming factor, conditional functions in the spreadsheet – computational example 6. Laboratory hot rolling of the flat sample - preparation of experiment 7. Measurement of rolling force and spread during hot rolling - a laboratory experiment 8. Metallographic processing of rolled samples 9. Comprehensive evaluation of laboratory rolling - report 10. Roll pass desing of blooms 11. Rod rolling - theoretical analysis, assigment 12. Rod rolling - computational methodology, report 13. Excursion to factory 14. Credit test, credit
