Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will be able: - to characterize the basic factor influencing formability, deformation resistance and structure-forming processes in bulk forming - to formulate the principal physical-metallurgical processes effecting properties of the formed material - to use his knowledge at decision concerning proper choise othe the thermomechanical parameters of forming - to apply his theoretical knowledge to suggest the procedures of testing deformation behaviour of material

Summary

Aim of the subject consists in transmitting the theoretical knowledge about hot/cold bulk forming of steels and selected non-ferrous metals, about principal procedures of the material’s formability testing and about physical simulations of the forming processes focused on influencing the final structural and mechanical propertis.

Co-requisities

Subject has no co-requisities.

Subject syllabus:

1. Principal goals of bulk forming, characteristics of the basic forming processes. 2. Fundamental notions and quantities at forming, several definitions of the strain magnitude. 3. Crystal lattice, dislocation, slide systems and the most important mechanisms of plastic deformation. 4. Principles of plstic deformation (preservation of volume, metal flow in the preffered directions). 5. Specifics of forming of the steels and selected non-ferrous alloys (influence of the crystal lattice and melting temperature). 6. Cold/hot forming, material hardening, deformation resistance (basic models). 7. Theoretical aspects of heating material before forming (effect of the material properties, heating curves). 8. Softening processes (dynamic/postdynamic, recovery/recrystallization). 9. Specifics of forming a cast structure (heterogeneity, defects, amount of deformation). 10. Material aspects of formability (chemical composition, structure, temperature-affected processes). 11. Possibilities of influencing deformation behaviour of material by the thermomechanical conditions of forming. 12. Formability tests (plastometric – tension, compression, torsion; technological – wedge rolling). 13. Fundamentals of the physical simulations of forming processes (laboratory rolling, plastometric tests). 14. Possibilities of affecting the material’s final properties by forming and controling the structure-forming processes.
